First and foremost, the ultimate secret of longevity is to realize that life is a marathon, not a sprint. Whether it's family life, work, fitness, diet, etc., there are no short cuts to health, wealth and happiness.
That is to say, the secret of longevity is ultimately determined by our ability to develop a series of small habits that we implement daily to stay on the right path.
But what are these habits or "secrets of longevity" that lead to a super life and how do we develop them? Well, outlined below is our opinion and answer to that very question.
The 9 Secrets of Longevity
Secret of Longevity #1: Be Content
No matter where you are in life you have to develop a mentality that you are fine with who you are, what you do, and what you have. If not, you will be over run with a sense that nothing in life is good enough.
Thoughts like; "I need more", "I'm worth more", and "I'm not attractive enough" will plague your thinking and cause you to never be satisfied.
One of the primary secrets of longevity and developing an iron mental approach to life is to say to yourself, "no matter what happens, I'm happy with what I have and who I am."
Does that mean you give up and stop working hard, eating healthy, or working out? Of course not. All it means is learning to be okay with the possibility that somethings never work out the way you plan them. Do that and nothing can shake you.
Secret of Longevity #2: Strength Train Regularly
Jogging is a great workout (in moderation), but strength training will provide your body with way more bang for your buck in terms of slowing the aging process, boosting cardio vascular health, and preventing injury.
Strength training is essential because as humans enter menopause (women) and andropause (men), hormone declines begin to cause sarcopenia, a condition that causes all adults to lose significant muscle mass.
Strength training dramatically slows this process by stimulating HGH and testosterone production; as well as other processes that stimulate muscle growth and cellular repair.

Secret of Longevity #3: Focus on Eating Real Superfoods, Fruits and Vegetables
80% of being healthy and avoiding disease is directly related to the things we put into our mouths. The other 20% is a mix of genetics, exercise and environmental stress.
Our bodies need tons of micro-nutrients like vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids to facilitate the thousands of chemical reactions necessary to slow the aging process, boost our hormones and fight off disease.
Eliminate as much processed foods as you can and replace it with real superfoods like Pine Pollen, Spirulina, Chlorella, Wheat Grass, Medicinal Mushrooms, and fruits and vegetables. Just to name a few.
This will supply your body with real quality nutrients, improve your body's performance, and make you feel superhuman.
Eat chips, ice cream, bread, and other junk and you'll feel tired, sluggish and plug up your body. Garbage in, garbage out.
A simple rule to follow: Avoid the "white devil" of white flour, white sugar, white rice, and white dairy. Do that and you'll be on the right path.
Secret of Longevity #4: Stretch and Do Mobility Work Daily
Our bodies are a multi-dimensional springs that needs to be twisted, bent, hinged and stretched daily to keep it pain free and mobile.
Unlike the muscles, joints do not have their own blood supply and thus need to be moved frequently to keep them flushed out and lubricated. When joints go with out movement too long, they become stiff, compressed and develop calcium deposits.
Moving our entire body and every joint through daily stretches and mobility exercises will prevent injuries and keep you moving like a little kid for as long as possible. It will also alleviate most joint pain, which plagues most sedentary adults.

Secret of Longevity #5: Get Out of Debt and Stay That Way
Nothing in the history of man has caused more stress and broken up more families than debt.
Not only does debt rob you of your money through interest payments, it reduces your opportunities in life and will cause you to do things you don't want to do so you can simply make your payments.
Get out of debt, including your mortgage as quickly as possible and watch how much weight will be instantly lifted off of your back. You will also be able to build wealth quickly if you aren't strapped with debt.
Secret of Longevity #6: Get at Least 7 Hours of Sleep a Night
This one is pretty self explanatory, but it is important to point out that our bodies primarily recover and produce new cells when we sleep. So without it, you are likely causing unnecessary stress on your body.
Plus, most of our hormones are produced when we sleep, so if you aren't sleeping your workouts simply aren't going to produce great results. If your goal is optimize your health, then make sleep a priority.
Secret of Longevity #7: Drink Plenty of Water Every Day
Stop drinking soda and sports drinks and drink real water! Not just any water though; real clean water.
Tap and spring waters are full of inorganic minerals, chemicals, pesticides, and other poisons. Get yourself a good reverse osmosis system or steam distiller and make sure you only drink water that you know is pure and clean.
Secret of Longevity #8: Minimize Your Desire for Material Things
Along with #1 and #5, one of the key secrets of longevity is to minimize your desire for material things. In Taoism this is referred to as "Te" or a characteristic that helps return us to our inner nature so that we can make wise decisions.
When we are constantly consumed with a desire to have more cars, more clothes, nicer homes, etc., we are likely to make poor decisions related to money, go into debt, or do a job we don't like simply for the sake of stuff.
You don't have to become a minimalist, just focus on your needs and eliminate as many wants as possible. This will help you save money and reduce the amount of time you waste shopping, planning and caring for your stuff.
Also, this item is not just limited to consumer goods and can be applied to our fitness. For men this manifests itself with an obsession with never being big enough and for women the exact opposite, not being skinny enough.
Obsessing with a desire for more muscle or to be skinny will cause you to never be satisfied with yourself and ultimately you will likely get discouraged and quit working out.
Focus on being optimally healthy and strong and you will naturally look and feel great.
Secret of Longevity #9: Be Grateful for What You Have
The secret of longevity that connects all of these is the idea of gratitude. No matter where you are in life or where you go, give thanks for the air in your lungs, the people in your life, the clothes on your back and the food in your mouth.
No matter how much you have, how you look, or what your title is in society, remember to give thanks for being alive and for each day you are above soil.
No one knows when the roller coaster will end, so be grateful and enjoy the ride. Even if some days feel shitty.
Again, the primary secrets of longevity all stem around developing small daily habits that must be followed consistently over your entire life. You can't workout for a month or eat clean for a week and expect to look and feel amazing at 70.
Likewise, you can't spend all of your money today and live for the moment and expect to be rich and retire comfortably.
Save your money, work hard, eat tons of superfoods, be grateful, and live a super life.
