9 Healthy Lifestyle Habits to Adopt Today
#1: Eat Clean and ADD SUPERFoods to Your Diet
Start by reducing the amount of processed food you eat and replace it with fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and superfoods like Pine Pollen, Maca, Moringa, Spirulina, etc. These foods contain essential vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, and other phyto-chemicals the body needs to operate efficiently.
If you eat meat the best thing you can do is to stop eating lunch meat and focus on organic grass-fed/free-range sources.
Note: Diets don't work and have too many rules. Keep things simple and start by eliminating one or two bad foods a week. After two or three months the small changes will add up to HUGE success.
#2: Exercise Daily
Daily physical exercise is key. The body has over 160 muscles and they need to be worked daily or they will atrophy and wither away.
IF YOU DON'T USE IT; YOU LOSE IT
The saying above couldn't be more true when it comes to fitness; especially when it comes to strength training. Strength training should be your focus, not running or walking. You need to strengthen your muscles in order to stimulate them into regrowing. Plus, if you train properly weight training can be your cardio.
As we age building muscle becomes more and more important for both men and women, as the body tends to lose muscle as it ages.
Focus on getting 3 good strength sessions in a week. High intensity workouts are best. The other 4 days you should walk, sprint, do yoga, or something else physical that stimulates blood flow.
Ignoring the obvious poisons in our drinking water (flouride and chlorine), our water is full of toxic chemicals, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, inorganic minerals, plastic residues, and other harmful substances.
These substances pollute our body, disrupt our endocrine systems, and contribute to a whole host of issues.
Your body is 70% water, so get as much fresh and clean water as possible. Steam Distilled and Reverse Osmosis water are best. We suggest buying a Total Dissolved Solids meter off the internet and testing your water to determine just how much unidentified "stuff" is floating around in their.
Check out this article by the MayoClinic which discusses how to determine how much water is best for you.
When you drink water it not only hydrates the cells, but flushes out toxins and chemical residues that invade the body.
#4: Purify Your Home Air
It probably won't surprise you that your air is just as polluted as the water in your tap. In addition to smog from cars and trucks, our air is full of dust, pesticides, herbicides, paint fumes, and fire retardants that are sprayed on our furniture and mattresses before they are shipped to us.
Filter Your Air - Don't Make Your Lungs Do it!
You can't control the air in society, but you can control the air you breath in your home. Get yourself a good home air purifier and run it when you are home. It is also important to vacuum and mop regularly. If you don't, your lungs may look like a cigarette filter over time.
#5: Stretch and Do Mobility Drills Daily
Those same 160 muscles that need to be stimulated in order not to atrophy and shrink, also need to be stretched and moved to keep your joints healthy.
Daily stretching and joint mobility work is amazing for lubricating your joints and relieving tension. It also helps to increase circulation, eliminate metabolic waste, and speed up exercise recovery.
Additionally, daily movement exercises keep you spry and athletic. One of the first things we lose as we age is our mobility. Most adults simply sit, stand, and walk, which is not dynamic enough to maintain proper mobility. If you want to feel young and stay athletic, you have to hinge, twist, squat, lunge, etc.
Your body is a complex spring and should be moved in as many directions as possible to stay young and healthy. Do these exercises daily and you'll always be able to move like a cat.
#6: Practice Deep Breathing
After you have properly cleaned the air in your home and tossed out all of your toxic cleaning chemicals, the next step is learning to breath properly. The body can live for weeks without food, days without water, but only minutes with out oxygen.
Most people breath shallow, using only the upper lobes of the lungs. This is often referred to as chest breathing and does not supply the body with sufficient air to properly oxygenate the blood. Deep belly breathing on the other hand, pulls air deep into the body to fully inflate the lungs.
There are a lot of great breathing exercises you can do, so we suggest researching on YouTube and finding a few you like.
#7: Fast Regularly
We have covered the topic of fasting extensively on our site and on our YouTube channel, so we won't go into too many details here. However, if your doctor thinks you are healthy enough to fast regularly, you should give it a try.
Daily fasting (time restricted eating) is a great way to rest the body, burn fat, stimulate hormone production, and help the body detox. When you fast for more than 16 hours your body goes into a process called autophagy, where it seeks out and destroys dead and decaying cells in the body.
In multiple studies, fasting has been shown to extend the lifespan of various organisms and animals. Even Dr. Patricia Bragg, the creator of Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar claims to have keep her dog alive and drug free for 20+ years by fasting him for 24 hours once a week.
#8: Practice Regular Detox and Cleansing
Lets start by stating the obvious: You should never waste money on detox and cleansing products! Your body does this naturally.
However, your body can become toxic from too much food, alcohol, excessive exercise, heavy metals, chemical exposure, etc. Because of this it is important to assist our bodies natural detox processes by following the other steps outlined in this post.
Drink Clean Water - Breath Clean Air - Fast Regularly - Exercise Daily - Eat Clean Food
Cleansing can be as simple as eliminating alcohol or sugar from your diet or as intense as drinking only distilled water for 3 days. It does not require pills and potions, though some products can be helpful.
#9: Get Out of Debt
This may surprise a lot of you, but getting out of debt is essential to maintaining a healthy relationship with your spouse, building wealth, and maintaining your mental health.
Debt causes stress and stress increases cortisol. Too much cortisol is a killer, which is why chronic stress and elevated cortisol levels due to money troubles can destroy your health.
