The Elimination Diet: The First Step Toward Clean Eating

What is the Elimination Diet
The Elimination Diet, just like it sounds, is the process by which you begin to eliminate the most harmful and addicting foods from your diet. One of the hardest parts about eating healthy is quitting bad habits and say good-bye to things like chips, candy, ice cream, etc.
This can be like breaking up with a crazy girlfriend or boyfriend that you know is bad for you, but you keep going back for more regardless. Trying to make a significant diet change is very similar to this and can be tough if you aren’t ready to turn your back and walk away forever.
As you can tell, the Elimination Diet really isn’t a true diet per se, but rather a process you should go through for a period of weeks or months prior to adopting any of the more rigid diets. Plus, it is a way easier place to start.
HOW TO Follow THE ELIMINATION DIET
To follow the Elimination Diet simply follow these three easy steps:
Take inventory of all crappy food in your house and throw it out. Or, donate it to a local food bank or homeless shelter.
The second step is to think about your daily and weekly eating habits; as well as your regular dinner menu items that need to be eliminated. This includes evaluating how often you eat fast food.
Simply avoid the items plaguing your diet and keep them out.
Food To Avoid on the Elimination Diet
When following the Elimination Diet it is best to start by avoiding the following foods, which are typically high in refined carbohydrates, sugar, salt, and hydrogenated oils.
Sugary cereal, bagels, donuts, pancakes, waffles, and other high carbohydrate breakfast foods
Corn and potato chips
Sodas, commercial juices, sports drinks, energy drinks, and other beverages loaded with sugar
Fast food and other fried treats
Desserts such as cakes, pies, cookies, ice cream, etc.
When following the Elimination Diet the key is to replace the harmful items with more fruits, vegetables, lean meat, clean water, and superfoods like Pine Pollen, Spirulina, etc.
We realize starting any diet can be difficult, so take baby steps and try not to eliminate everything at once.
Begin by eliminating one thing at a time and replacing it with something healthier. For example: start by eliminating breakfast cereal and replacing it with a banana or morning superfood drink like Pine Pollen and Lemon Water. Then, after cleaning up breakfast, try eliminating something else.
The Elimination Diet is the logical first step toward adopting a healthy lifestyle and clean eating habits. This diet/approach is not only the most sustainable in terms of difficulty; it also allows the body to adjust to small changes over time.
Going from eating the SAD diet (Standard American Diet) straight to something like a fully raw vegan diet can cause a healing crisis in the body and create symptoms similar to the withdrawal symptoms experienced by a drug addict.
If you are looking for an excuse to try the Elimination Diet, try going through one of your cabinets today and toss out a few items that you know are not good for you. Do this everyday for a few weeks and you’ll slowly begin to transform your diet.
Just don’t buy those items again after tossing them, or this exercise will be a complete waste of time.
